Google upgraded Gemini Live on 26 Aug 2026, and it is the kind of update that quietly changes how you use the app. Gemini is Google's AI assistant, a free app you can chat with on your phone. Gemini Live is its voice mode: instead of typing, you talk. Until now it mostly answered questions. The new version can act too: check your email out loud, read your day back to you, and finish small tasks while your hands are busy.
The timing matters. Google says the Gemini app passed one billion monthly users in August, with 63 per cent of them now talking to it out loud. In Singapore, where the morning rush does not leave much time to sit and sort email, that is worth a look. And because Gemini is Google's own product, it is one of the few assistants that can actually reach into your Gmail and Google Calendar. It sits in our AI tools directory alongside the other big assistants.
